Why is it called the Birds and the Bees?

J.L. Sweat reading Birds Bees Babies

Most people have heard of the story of the birds and the bees, but they have no idea what the term means!

Wondering about the mystery?  We have the 411 right here…

1. Nobody really knows where the term “the birds & the bees comes from!

News Flash: Everyone seems to have an answer!

Some people say that a poet named Samuel Coleridge was the first to use the term.  What ever the source, it is clear that people have been using the term since the 1800s and possibly as early as the 1600s.  The fact is, where ever the term came from, it is old!

2. The term refers to making babies (and particularly, the process of doing so)!

WAYS TO DISCUSS THE BIRDS & BEES

Irrespective of the source, people use the term “the birds & bees” to refer to the process of making babies.  Some people think that means having sex but that is not entirely true.  The irony is, most people don’t know how birds nor bees reproduce, so the reference often just confuses people more.

Birds, Bees, Babies, the story of the birds and the bees, tells a story in which birds and bees use frogs, snails, & puppy dog tails to make boys and sugar, spice and some things that are nice to make girls.

There is no real definition of the term.  It refers to natural occurrence of mating.  It is often referred to as the “Birds and Bees Talk” when used in connection with sexuality.  Often it is the term used to explain what small children who have questions about where babies come from will be told.

Most people can tell you what little boys & little girls are made of but have no idea why such is the case!

3. The Stork (a bird) Delivers Babies!

To the dismay of doctors everywhere, despite having never seen it occur, if you ask anyone who delivers babies, most people will answer the Stork!  This is just something everyone seems to know and accept, except most Medical Doctors..
